Cole & Kenzie What a perfect pair!

Here is the story of a boy who loves babies.  Babies of any kind, when his grandma came to him one day and asked him to raise up a little baby calf he jumped at the opportunity.  The baby was born snow white so Cole named her Snowball.  It wasn't very Scottish sounding so he and grandma decided to register her as Kenzie after a dear friend of our family who passed away last year.  So it was settled, she'd be called Snowball and registered as Kenzie.  Cole was so excited about his baby that he wanted to devote an entire website to her.  After much discussion I finally convinced him that a page on the Run A Muk site would probably keep him pretty busy.  So here it is.... Cole's debut on the web.  Here is the Story of Cole and his beautiful baby calf.... Snowball....

bullet She was born March 13, 2007 She weighed 51 pounds at birth.  She was born at Run A Muk South under Susan & Naomi's supervision.  Once the baby was born it was obvious that momma wasn't going to be able to raise her, so they made an executive decision that this would be Cole's first calf.  We have a standing policy here on the ranch that once the kids reach 9 years old that they are given a heifer to start their herd with.  Cole will be 9 in August so it was close enough for Sue & Naomi to let him bottle feed this little one.
bulletToday is March 21, 2007 and to date Cole has built her a pen (including feeders) and moved her to Run a Muk North.  Our goal is for him to post weekly updates on this site so everyone knows how she's doing.  Come back and visit us and we'll keep you updated.
bulletToday is March 29th.  Today Cole brought Snowball up into the yard and took some photos of her.  She is growing up really fast and she just loves both Cole and Cade.  She'll walk right up to them!

These photos were taken late April.  Cole took Kenzie out again for a little fun in the sandbox.  As you can see this girl and her boy have a great time together!

bulletThis next series of shots is when Kenzie got her new pen May 5th or so.  Grandma and Cole opened up her little pen and let her run into the corral.  Kenzie loves to buck and run in her new home.  Cole and grandma decided that Kenzie is getting to be a little bit of a stinker so we are going to move her over to Susan's (Run A Muk South) to put her in with some of the other calves.  Grandma thinks this will help Kenzie learn how to be a cow.  She needs to take her 'lumps' with the other calves.  Cole is going to be sad to see her go for a few weeks but he understands that someday this animal will be 1500 pounds and she needs to realize she's a cow and not a playmate.

October 30, 2007

Cole and Kenzie made their debut at the CWSF this year.. It was quite a site!!

Grandma was able to take Kenzie to the Evergreen state Fair in Monroe, WA the Puyallup fair and the Spokane Interstate Fair and Expo.  But when Kenzie went to Yakima Cole was the one on the other end of the lead rope.  (as if he needed to lead his baby.. she pretty  much just follows him everywhere~!)

October 2007 She's home now and Cole can go visit her anytime he wants to in the back pasture.  She's the lowest on the pecking order but I don't think that bothers Cole.  In fact, it gives him an excuse to give her grain and feed her in a special pen so he can make sure she get's enough groceries!!..

January 2008 Cole is so excited he can go play with his little beauty any time he wants... he's using his own money to buy her grain all winter.  (grandma and he discussed if it would be alright to keep her on grain all year or not).. He wants to make sure she stays snuggly warm all winter with fat on her body.. He's made her a 'creep' feeder so the bigger animals can't get into it.  That also allows Cole to go and visit with her by himself.  He can just sit in there and talk to her about whatever is on his mind. Our animals are very gentle but we are also realistic about the fact that they are 'animals' and having a 9 year old alone in a pen with new momma's isn't this 'momma's' idea of a smart choice.. but with the creep only Kenzie and Cole can get in.. It gives me a sense of security too..

I told Cole to go take some photos of his baby and here is one of the last ones on the batch.  Of course he didn't know I'd post this one on the website.. but gosh it was so funny!...
